EPL Archives

Best Practices

The availability of high quality biological and environmental specimens and samples for research requires the development of standardized methods for collection, long-term preservation and storage, retrieval, and distribution to facilitate their future use.

EPL Archives’ (EPL) goal is to consistently pioneer new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that incorporate innovative technology and methods for maximizing the quality and extending the life of biomaterials, biomaterials research data and related manufactured goods.

EPL is working to share certain SOPs that advance best practices within our industry as an active member of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER).  For more information about ISBER see www.isber.org.

ISBER’s Best Practices for Repositories (Best Practices) reflect the collective experience of its members and provide repository professionals with a comprehensive tool to guide them in all their repository activities.

The ISBER Best Practices are reviewed bi-annually and are revised to reflect advances in research and technology.  It is important to note that some aspects of biomaterials management are governed by national, regional and local regulations.
