EPL Archives announced it has joined the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VABIO), the premier statewide non-profit trade association representing the life sciences industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

STERLING, VA (February 3, 2012) —EPL Archives, announced that it has joined the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VABIO), the premier statewide non-profit trade association representing the life sciences industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

EPL Archives joins VABIO as a Bioscience Company member, which includes for-profit biotech, device, medical technology businesses and life science-focused companies. EPL Archives currently serves over 700 global clients engaged in research and development activities, including 80% of the top Fortune 50 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

“As the first commercial biorepository, founded in April 1978, EPL Archives continues to provide complete biorepository solutions that meet our client’s needs throughout the research and commercialization phases of regulated product development” said Sam Busey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EPL Archives, Inc. “We see our membership in the VABIO community as an opportunity to enhance our collaboration with partners and clients alike.”

The Commonwealth of Virginia is home to nearly 300 biotechnology and medical device firms who, like EPL Archives, are expanding the frontiers of modern medicine. VABIO focuses on public policy issues facing the biosciences at the local, state and federal level. VABIO members work to educate policy makers about the industry and its significant impact onVirginia.

“Virginia has a remarkable number of assets in the bioscience sphere,” said Mark A. Herzog, executive director of the Virginia Biotechnology Association. “EPL Archives is a key partner for hundreds of leading pharmaceutical and life science companies. To have them here in the Commonwealth and as an active member of VABIO is a huge asset to Virginia’s bioscience community.”

EPL is also a member of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER), corporate sponsor of the Society of Quality Assurance (SQA), and actively participates in events hosted by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), the Society of Toxicology (SOT), the Drug Information Association (DIA) and other bioscience organizations. Serving a global market, EPL Archives currently maintains over 1,000,000 cubic feet of purpose-built, regulatory compliant, secure, and environmentally-controlled storage space.

This year’s theme for the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition is “The Next 25 Years.” Colin M. Minchom, Ph.D., Annual Meeting Programming Committee chair-elect noted when explaining this year’s theme, “When AAPS was formed in 1986, none of the founders anticipated the changes that led to today’s shape of the pharmaceutical sciences, the shape of the industry, the regulatory climate, and societal pressures on the cost-benefit of therapies. What will happen in our industry in the next 25 years?”

FDA Director to Keynote
